This report examines jail populations, which continue to be under-evaluated and under-researched despite the high volume of individuals who interact with jails compared to other carceral facilities, by analyzing jail booking rates as a key measure of public safety and the effectiveness of the criminal justice system, and by tracking these trends over time to provide insights that support justice-involved individuals and promote successful reintegration into the community following a jail stay.
